  • How do I start up genotyping?
To set up genotyping please refer to the following forms:
                -Sample submission form
                -PCR protocol submission form
                -MSAT submission form

          The following information is required:

  • What does the set-up fee cover?
The set-up fee covers the implementation and optimization of a new PCR protocol in our lab. Also covered is the extraction of up to four control samples.

  • Am I charged for genotyping controls?
No. Controls are a form of quality assurance for both you and us.

  • When will I be billed?
Billing occurs once a month in most cases. Our staff submits billing to the CCM administration between the 5th and 10th of each month, and billing submitted is for the prior month. Samples are not billed until after the samples have been processed and results have been reported.

  • Can you send me an email reminder of billing so I know what to expect in the bill?
Yes. Please contact us requesting that we inform you that billing is going to occur. We can tell you the total cost and give an itemization of charges before billing is submitted if you request.

  • What is a NUD and when does it apply?
NUD is the Non-University Differential. Any time payment is made without a valid University of California recharge number, the NUD applies. Currently the NUD is 44.4% and it makes up for the common resources in the UC system, such as facilities overhead, maintenance and other resources provided to our lab by the UC system that are not reflected in our UC rates.

  • I'm an investigator with the University of California, so why am I being charged a NUD?

The UC pricing is not automatic. In order to receive UC pricing, you MUST pay with a recharge number or recharge-account string. All payments that are not made on a recharge basis will have a NUD deducted by central accounting as they base this only on the source of funding, not the PI providing the funding.

    Services Offered

  • What services do you offer?

We currently offer the following services:
PCR based genotyping, by Quantitative PCR and traditional Diagnostic PCR. Quantitative PCR only detects marker genes. Diagnostic PCR can be construct specific or simply screen for an internal vector.
                Microsatellite Analysis
Embryonic Stem Cell screening of 96 well plates for homologous recombination
                Southern Blot analysis (in development)

  • Can you determine the zygosity of my Cre/GFP/Genetrap/Neo mouse? How do you do that?

We do have an assay that will indicate zygosity in your mouse marker. Using the Relative Quantification (aka delta-delta Ct) Real-time PCR assay, we use a reference gene to obtain a baseline DNA quantity, then compare the level of the marker gene in relation to that reference gene. Currently we have assays for Cre, GFP (also works for YFP), and Neomycin. Since genetrap lines have a beta-galactosidase/neomycin fusion cassette, our Neomycin real time assay works on genetrap lines also, which is very helpful if the exact integration site is unknown, thus hindering the development of a site specific traditional PCR assay.

  • Can you determine the integration site of my BayGenomics mouse line?

We do not currently have the ability to determine the integration site of BayGenomics genetrap lines. If you would like to be informed

  • Can you develop a genotyping protocol for my mutant mouse line?
  • Can you genotype my mice by Southern Blot? Real Time PCR?
  • Can you detect/genotype my SNP?

  • Can you develop a real time assay for my mice?
